This space was once home to Brasserie Ruhlmann, a French restaurant built for business lunches. While prime office space and luxury apartments might have been key to revitalizing a Manhattan neighborhood in the past, Rockefeller Center is betting its future on independent restaurants imported from Harlem and Prospect Heights to lure native New Yorkers back to Midtown. This has become somewhat commonplace — take the Market Line food hall on the Lower East Side — but the time and money pumped into this particular revitalization project is next-level. Former Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson, an unlikely standard-bearer of hospitality hype, is even throwing his hat into the ring. Could it actually work? New York is about to find out. The latest rebrand of Rockefeller Center has been in the works for years.

The new restaurant openings at Rockefeller Center are continuing apace, this time with a spot from the team behind the beloved King in Soho. On a menu meant to be enjoyed for both lunch and dinner, pasta is the real highlight. But before tucking in to alphabet pasta in broth or tagliarini with chicken livers, a selection of small plates might first visit your table. Fried zucchini and artichokes retain lightness, while a selection of meats bresaola, prosciutto, finocchiona and coppa come served with giardiniera. The pasta, of course, is plentiful.

Swanky French bistro Frenchette is debuting a new restaurant this winter, and Olmsted, King, and the two-Michelin-starred Atomix are setting up shop in the development next spring. Rounding out the food scene is Pebble Bar, a three-story watering hole from the team behind Grand Army and Celestine in Brooklyn.
