Drakan the ancients gates
The game's name comes from the eponymous Ancients' Gates, which are the central focus of the story. The gameplay of Drakan: The Ancients' Gates is virtually identical to its predecessor. It is a third-person action-adventure perspective that consists of two main parts of gameplay - in the air and on the ground. When flying mounted on Arokh, a dragon, the duo is superior to any ground enemy, but on the other hand, facing flying enemies will require a lot of maneuver and aim. Arokh can target enemies and launch powerful fireballs in their direction or a powerful breath of fire, in addition to other powers that you can acquire in the game for him. When controlling Arokh, the player has free movement in three dimensions, up and down, left and right, forward and backward. In solo, the player directly controls the main character, Rynn. Players can focus on specific enemies and perform attacks, including combo moves. Apart from that Rynn can use several weapons, including swords , axes , bows , and blunt weapons. She can also use several spells, such as Fireball, Lightning Bolt, and others. This game takes place sometime after the events in Order of the Flame. Rynn and Arokh answer a call from the city of Surdana. Lady Myschala of Surdana asks for Rynn and Arokh's assistance. An evil race of three-faced beings known as the Desert Lords has begun rallying the monsters from around the world similar to how the Dark Union did in Order of the Flame and have begun enslaving humans. Around the world, there exist four gateways that lead to the world where the dragon mother, Mala-Shae, and her brood have been slumbering since the Dark Wars.

If you're looking for a solid action-adventure title to play now that you've beaten all the games you picked up during the holidays, Drakan: The Ancients' Gates may fit the bill nicely. In it, you play as Rynn, a female warrior who shares a magical bond with an ancient dragon named Arokh. Dark forces have begun to gather in your realm, and the two of you must open four magical gates to bring Arokh's dragon brethren back into the world to drive out the evil. The original Drakan was referred to by many as "Tomb Raider with a sword" because of its svelte female protagonist and the time it was released, but it had little in common with that series and is even less Tomb Raider-like now. As in the first game, you engage in hand-to-hand combat against foes on the ground when playing on foot as Rynn and in aerial combat against flying enemies when you're in the sky on Arokh's back. Besides being handy with a sword, you can also shoot arrows and cast spells. As you gain experience, you increase your skills in these three areas, which let you use special items more powerful swords, bows, and spells, respectively. Throughout the course of the game, you gain enough experience to excel in one area and have basic proficiency in another--or you can balance your skills and end up fairly adequate in all three areas. The inventory system that you use to view your armor, weapons, and items is very similar to Diablo's in that larger items take up more physical space than smaller ones. Also as in Diablo, you must repair armor and weapons after extensive use, and you'll find that they aren't as strong as they were originally.

Unlike the other games on the system, Drakan follows a more old-school approach to the adventure paradigm -- diversifying its dungeon crawls with above-land quests, and bolstering its character development with a good story and a naturally evil villain that packs lots of side quests and sub-plots. But Surreal's RPG-like quest brings the adventure game to a new level, to a broader, more elevated status, really, with the introduction of Arokh, the dragon. Arokh's ability to fly isn't just a tech demo, or a "lite" addition to the core of the game, he is a fully integrated and fundamental aspect of the game, fighting enemies without your aid, ferrying Rynn from place to place, battling enemies in the sky or on the ground, and leading you deeper into the mythos of the environments, the landscape, and into the history and story itself, of which Arokh and his race are a crucial part. And just like a good adventure game, Drakan: The Ancients' Gates is big and long, packing in well over 25 hours of gameplay, along with a giant assortment of locales to sift through, explore, and inspect, and the kind of gameplay that gets you in trouble with the wife or the girlfriend. You say, "I'll be done in half an hour," but before you bat another eye, it's am, she's in her negligee, fast asleep. And for me, well, I didn't care, cause there was always just one extra quest to wander into before the sun rose Rynn starts off with a small short sword, and no magic, but as she travels along, she picks up all the weaponry and armor she'll need. The first little hike to the first village is a training ground in itself, wherein players learn to use Rynn's abilities walk, run, attack, defend, use a bow and arrow, jump, climb, hang, converse, swim, use magic, and manage the inventory. Once you begin earning cash, attaining weaponry is easy, since there always seems to be a blacksmith on hand. In the castle village, Rynn also can buy spells, visit the pub or the alchemist, who specializes in things such as Life potions, health drinks, and Mana, and pick up little side-quests from nearby villagers.
