Doctor Octopus Dr. Otto Gunther Octavius , also known as Doc Ock for short, is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Realizing that the only way for him to be at peace is to regain his lost memories, Otto sets out to once again become the Superior Spider-Man. Born in Schenectady , New York , to a lower-class family, only child Otto Octavius was raised by his overbearing mother and his abusive father. During his youth, Otto would often receive beatings from his father at home, or from bullies at school. Otto was devoid of friends, but excelled academically.
