Hi - apologies if this is stupid - but can anyone tell me how to fix the bit of wood in my front doorway, where the security screen latches in to? A small section that had a crack already has come off, as per the photo below. Would wood filler sort this sort of thing? Or best to glue the old part back on and then wood filler around that? Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's fabulous to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about fixing your front door wood frame. It's perfectly alright to ask these questions, but before we begin, I believe that your security door is the first thing we need to address before you begin repairing your wood frame. For some reason, your security door is catching on to this part of the frame and is damaging it. Repairing your door frame now will only result in the same thing happening. Would it be possible for you to post a photo of your security door both in its open and closed state? Can you please also include a photo of the hinges of the security door?
Hi achandra Have you looked at taking one of them to Bunnings to see if another, less agressive design, would fit? We look forward to seeing the photos of your security door.
My internal doors have a door strike plate that sticks out alot and causes injuries when walking past. A quick solution to your door strike is to gently tap the lip of the strike receiver with a hammer. Your goal is to gently turn the excessively long lip of the striker downwards so that it does not catch your arm as you walk by it. If you have a vice in your tool shop it will even be simpler as you can clamp the strike receiver on the vice and tap the lip inwards. A more challenging solution would be to grind it down with a grinder. Just be careful not to trim too much off or the latch will strike the timber instead of the receiver.
This is a great option to accompany a deadbolt and long pull handle to hold the door shut while not locked. Magnetic catches are installed along the side of the door. Customers will want to order two 2 magnetic catches: one close to the top of the door and one close to the bottom of the door. If you order magnetic catches with your door, we will automatically install the magnetic catch into the face of the handle-side side-cap. However, we will NOT prep for the magnetic catches in the jamb post. Because installations can vary greatly from site to site, it is best to install the jamb hardware only after the door has been installed and the final position is determined. In many cases, customers wish to purchase sidelights for their door units. The Ogden sidelights are built as a separate unit. You will need a 2 inch structural support post installed between the sidelights and door frame.

Gear-obsessed editors choose every product we review. We may earn commission if you buy from a link. Why Trust Us? Door latches come in a variety of styles and types, and are probably more versatile than you might think. If you just want a latch to keep a door closed, then you probably can get away with a simple hook-and-eye latch. Regardless of which type you go with, make sure to take your time when installing, otherwise you can end up having to re-position the latch and be left with unsightly screw holes. The high number of brands, styles and sizes available online can be overwhelming, so we narrowed down our selection to the most common types, and chose the best option for each category. We appreciate how thick the parts of this latch are, unlike the thinner, less rugged options you might be used to seeing. Our favorite feature of this latch is the fact that it not only comes with three different sizes of screws, but also a pair of shims, allowing you to really customize the installation to your specific door.
