The Vampire Diaries provided riveting drama and spine-tingling romance for eight seasons straight, but it also dealt with heavier themes. Death was a concept that the show never shied away from, and the first season itself had several beloved characters go in shocking fashion. In every consequent season, there were several deaths that impacted the show greatly. While many of these deaths were permanent, some were of a more temporary nature. Still, they completely changed the trajectory of plot lines and motivations of other characters, making them significant losses at the time.
