With the prevalence of homebrew pantheons and all the numerous worlds you might end up in, this dnd gods list is in no way comprehensive. Instead the following list of dnd deities encompasses all the Forgotten Realms deities, or at least the current forgotten realms deities, since the pantheon has shifted from edition to edition. Lots of human sacrifices on icy altars, for evil and ice themed characters only. Stereotypical old bearded wizard elevated to godhood, for characters who love them some wizarding. Lord of being generically evil, think black knights and big evil churches. Blood for the blood god, murder for the murder god. Bhaal just loves him some killing. Mad god that successfully pissed off literally everybody, pick at your own risk, nobody is going to like you. Nerdier and weaker brother of Oghma, good for the nerdy underdog characters. Pacifist lake goddess of healing, good choice for healers and druids. Somber but not evil, dutiful guard of the dead and bastion against undeath. The morninglord, pure chad energy, kind of vain but great for paladins and artists. CN Chaotic Neutral. She likes mists, masks and lies, not a bad option for sneaky characters.

When gods walk the world, clerics channel divine power, evil cults perform dark sacrifices in subterranean lairs, and shining paladins stand like beacons against the darkness, it's hard to be ambivalent about the deities and deny their existence. People in the Forgotten Realms, for example, might pray to Sune for luck in love, make an offering to Waukeen before heading to the market, and pray to appease Talos when a severe storm blows in — all in the same day. Many people have a favorite among the gods, one whose ideals and teachings they make their own. And a few people dedicate themselves entirely to a single god, usually serving as a priest or champion of that god's ideals. Your DM determines which gods, if any, are worshiped in his or her campaign. From among the gods available, you can choose a single deity for your character to serve, worship, or pay lip service to.

Get to know the 5E deities that shape your campaign's universe. The DnD deities usually function in a very clear way: they are real, inhabitants of the world know that they are real, and they interact with the world using their power. Either directly: The creation of races , divine punishments, etc. Or indirectly: providing power to Clerics and Paladins , or influencing inhabitants of the world to carry out their desires. They are beings of vast power, knowledge, and influence; this usually leads to a player somewhere asking, where do they live, and can I kill them for a cool new sword? In 5th edition, the gods are not provided statblocks like other creatures, and killing them is usually a matter for other gods or campaign-defining artifacts. There is one exception to this rule, however, the evil dragon goddess, Tiamat—the overarching antagonist of the Tyranny of Dragons storyline which plays out across Hoard of the Dragon Queen and Rise of Tiamat. Within the latter adventure is a full statblock for the goddess, so if you want to oil your blade and have at it, well, uh, good luck with that!
