The television presenter Dan Wootton has announced he is leaving GB News to set up an independent platform, and in a parting shot accused the media regulator Ofcom of censorship. Ofcom received 8, complaints — making it the most complained-about TV event of the year. Fox and Wootton, who both apologised, were suspended by the channel after the broadcast. The actor was subsequently sacked. How can any British broadcaster truly stand for freedom of expression when state goons have the power to decide what you are and are not allowed to say on air? Unlike the freedoms enjoyed in the US thanks to the first amendment, how can these media outlets ever be anything other than controlled opposition?

It was little surprise that Fox, the darling of rightwing culture warriors, would double down on comments that even GB News deemed too offensive to let slide. GB News has said it will not investigate claims of inappropriate behaviour made against star presenter Dan Wootton because none of the accusations relate to his work for the channel. Wootton, who has a nightly show on the rightwing news channel, has been accused of using a pseudonym to solicit explicit images from former colleagues at the Sun over many years. The presenter has not directly denied the allegations but says he is the victim of a smear campaign by unknown forces who want to shut down his political views.
