It has been a daldongnae since I have had Korean barbecue and I was excited to try this restaurant out, daldongnae.

Decor here is a throwback to the heyday of those neighbourhoods, with tightly packed stalls and paraphernalia like old timey war photos and vintage cigarette packs. Though the space is narrow, it feels more cozy than cramped, and there are enough booths and round tables in the restaurant to accommodate 66 people. Aside from a grill, the pan you're provided with also holds kimchi, raw beaten eggs, corn, and garlic in special side compartments. As you grill your meat, these items will heat up and cook themselves, making for great finger food and tasty condiments. For appetizers, the menu includes classic complimentary banchan like spiced cucumber and seaweed that are refillable. The bowl of soy sauce provided is a mix of sugar, lemon, jalapeno, and vinegar boiled together to create a unique flavour. It has a little kick but is mostly sweet; mixed with red apple, egg, cabbage and peppers, the noodles have a nice chewy texture.

Whatever the reason, I find myself daydreaming about grilled meat at least once a week. We arrived around 6pm on a Wednesday and was lucky enough to grab a booth without a wait. Service: All of the staff we interacted with were quite friendly and helpful. After placing our order, the grill was set-up right away was followed quickly by the raw ingredients. Lights were dim and soju poured at every boisterous table. I was happy we were seated at a comfortable booth instead of the round grill tables with backless stools. The stools were very useful to double as storage for jackets and bags as the restaurant was very cozy with tables packed tight and full of diners.

It definitely needed its dipping sauce to be appealing.
