Today I think it is safe to say that this one does. Garth Allison took inspiration during the build of this Honda CX cafe racer from none other than Sascha Lakic, who I recently interviewed here on the site. Roll on some forty odd years, and I work as a welder in a furniture manufacturing business for a long time friend who raced speedway in England for seven years. His suggested solution was that I make most of it myself. First I sourced a set of Yamaha R1 forks that came with the brake callipers and rear shock. I shortened the forks 30mm internally and pressed the CX steering head stem into the bottom triple clamp, trimming any unnecessary castings away then polishing them. From the start of this build I wanted spoked wheels, so I bought some billet alloy and turned up the hubs on a lathe. The front was easy but the rear took more time as I wanted to use a YZ80 front disc fit with an R1 rear blue spot calliper.

The Honda CX Deluxe underwent modifications to adopt the style of a cafe racer. The fuel tank, headlight nacelle, and drilled side covers were refinished in grey. A custom round tail section and solo cafe-style seat were added to the frame. Additional features include a shortened chrome front fender, center and side stands, and a custom license plate bracket with a taillight mounted to the left frame rail. The suspension consists of a conventional front fork with black lowers and a rear swingarm fitted with replacement shocks. Braking is handled by a single disc in the front and a drum brake in the rear. The black clubman-style handlebars house factory-style controls, switches, and grips. Round mirrors have been installed in their original positions. The instrumentation includes a mph speedometer, a tachometer with a redline at 9, rpm, a coolant temperature gauge, and a five-digit odometer. Powering the bike is a liquid-cooled cc V-twin engine that originally produced 48 horsepower.
