I arrived at Columbine the first hour of the shooting, and spent ten years on this book. I was driven by two questions: why did they do it, and how did this shattered community recovery? My surprise was that most of what we "know" about Columbine was wrong. It wasn't about jocks, Goths or the Trench Coat Mafia. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold didn't even envision a school shooting. They ridiculed school shooters as losers.

There are so many more nuances within the book, though it is up to the courageous reader to sift through the book and pull out what touches them most deeply. That they were Goths, or on drugs, or that there was some significant incident which had triggered the rampage. I recommend this book. The book is wonderfully paced and pulls the reader in from the start. I thought the same thoughts as every other student in the country: could it happen here? Aspirations aside, Cullen is no Capote. It changed my whole perspective on this. The entire scope of the Columbine shootings are covered with almost no wasted space. Dewey Decimal. Language: English. It is very a positive contribution for Cullen to have sorted out the many pieces of this complex puzzle and to show us how the pieces interlink.

Eric Harris was a charming, egomaniacal psychopath who longed for the annihilation of the human race, and Dylan Klebold was a lost depressive subject prone to outbursts of anger. When they became bored with their spree, they attempted once more to detonate their two large propane bombs in the cafeteria, then returned to the library and committed suicide side-by-side.

They set up home-made pipe bombs that were planted around the school cafeteria and set to go off at a precise moment when the cafeteria would be the most crowded. Eric described going to some random downtown area in some big city and blowing up and shooting up everything he could. Dylan always saw himself as unloved. He doesn't take sides.
