I'm not disappointed at Phelps's death, just how it was sloppily handled it was as well as the funeral. His death scene and funeral spanned for like a total of 3 minutes! I am going to assume they just ran out of time for the game because that ending couldn't have felt more rushed. The end felt like just another conclusion of a case, completely devoid of emotion. Cole should have at least had a 'life flashing before his eyes' moment to make the scene a LITTLE emotional and show he horribly regretted all he's done in the war.

Even if he did survive and faked his death, prior to the s many films and books ended on a low note, and many tended to leave something unresolved. This was not intended as a back door to a sequel, it was just the end. It fell out of style, in favor of the "Ride off into The Sunset" ending, because that sold more tickets. People tend to prefer knowing that everything is okay, or at least resolved. Anyhow, this sort of ending is common in pulp crime novels and film noir. Still Playing the game, didn't know he died :.
