Men-At-Arms are an important part of gaining a military advantage over enemy factions in Crusader Kings 3. In addition to the Levies contributed by Vassals and ruled territories, players can also recruit specialist units via the Military tab, who will be much more combat-effective than similarly sized armies full of Levies. To start with, players will only have five Men-At-Arms regiment slots available, though this can eventually be expanded up to nine regiments with a variety of traditions, perks, and innovations. Siege Weapons have been omitted from the compositions, though these will be required in order to besiege and conquer any enemy settlements. Siege Weapons can travel as a separate army and only be brought in when necessary, or can be added by players once additional Men-At-Arms slots have been unlocked. Each composition is useful for a variety of reasons, though players may be required to unlock several innovations and traditions , or occupy certain territories, before these units become available. As well as Regular Men-At-Arms regiments, there are also specialist Regional, Cultural, and Traditional units that can be unlocked throughout the game. While generally these units are more powerful, it is worth double-checking against other available regiments to see where strengths and weaknesses within an army may lie. This balanced and cheap composition of troops will provide cover against all types of enemies. Caballeros are an Iberian cavalry unit and will therefore require players to own territory in Iberia before they can be unlocked. The Caballeros can be replaced with other cavalry types, but their cheap maintenance cost makes them an ideal choice, particularly for early-game players in the region. The Pikemen will provide defense against enemy cavalry units, with additional support from the Crossbowmen.
Supply is consumed once per month whenever armies are in a Barony with a lower Supply Limit than the army size and gained whenever armies are in owned, occupied or allied territory up to the current Barony's Supply Limit.

Armies ordered to cross a sea zone will embark onto a fleet. Embarking costs Gold proportional to the army size. Levies are conscripted peasants that make up the bulk of all armies. They are not very impressive on their own, but are used in great numbers to complement more important troops. A Levy has 10 Damage and 10 Toughness.

Sep 26, Morwys I appreciate your taking the effort, but I'm not sure how valuable it is in practice when you end up with a preliminary advice of using cheap MAAs that are little better than levies, like Light Infantry. Since it does not contain any Cultural or Traditional units, this set up can be used by any faction, in just about any territory on the map. The traction-powered mangonel is easier to operate than the onager while also boasting a faster rate-of-fire. How would you counter an army that had 2x Huscarls and 2x Elephants? They are very cheap so great choices. Vijayabahu of Vijayabahu. Most of the Men-at-Arms types have a favorable and unfavorable terrain. Highlights Men-At-Arms are essential for gaining a military advantage in Crusader Kings 3 , and players can recruit specialist units for increased combat effectiveness. For this reason, I think you should still have some investment in light cavalry in most single-player situations. As you note, it has some use for the early game especially in previous patches, before everyone started with a certain number of MAAs, which meant that in poorer regions of the map everyone would build LI, so going Archers with your first non-siege stack would let you clean-up. Thread starter Morwys Start date Jun 30, Right now, I don't think it matters much. You need 4 Pikemen since you are countering 2 Pikemen with the Huscarls. Merkatz View Profile View Posts. Only time where i actually watch what MAA counters what is when playing with Haesteinn and doing something dirty like attack Abbasid, Iberia, or Germania The way the counter system works is based on the number of the counter present, so if you stack all on one type you will never be countered properly because the AI doesn't try to concentrate all its MAA on one counter type, it buys a variety. Levies are not very strong, but enough of them will still overwhelm anyone especially the AI, which doesn't know how to use MAAs effectively. Store Page.
