Takeuchi struggled with a name for Black Lady, initially calling her "the Black Queen" and retaining her childlike appearance. Author Naoko Takeuchi describes Chibiusa as a precocious person who likes pulling pranks. Her real name is the same as her mother's, but is called Chibiusa in Japanese to avoid confusion between the two. Silver Millennium was a matriarchy , which is why Chibiusa has Tsukino as her surname rather than Chiba. But in the the 20th century, she goes by the name Chibiusa Tsukino Rini Tsukino in the original English dub. She is given her nickname by Mamoru Chibi in the manga and Usagi in the anime in order to differentiate from the older Usagi Tsukino, Sailor Moon. The nickname is a diminutive of her given name, Usagi or Serena in the original dub. In her own time period, she is always called Little Lady or Small Lady. Chibiusa does not transform into Sailor Chibi Moon in the first movie as this was before she became a Sailor Scout , but she does in the other two.
