Every clue to Chef Slowik's plan is visible throughout The Menu , from the reasons why the wealthy guests are selected to die to the purpose their demise will ultimately serve, but director Mark Mylod layers them throughout each course to ignite anticipation. With each new bounty brought from the kitchen, new revelations are presented, and Chef is one step closer to his ultimate goal. While their famous leader has his own personal vendetta driving him to craft something so sinister, the staff have their own reasons for agreeing to follow his plan. Early in movie, a joke is made about the staff's "cult-like" devotion to Chef Slowik and his restaurant, putting aside their own comfort and safety as long as they can successfully make every dish in The Menu. This isn't far removed from how the staff performs in world-renowned kitchens led by chefs like Marco Pierre White or Gordon Ramsay, devoting their lives to gaining their chef's approval by working hour days while eschewing friends, family, and hobbies.
