The show is a seamless continuation of One Life Studio's earlier show Porus. Alexander's general Seleucus Nicator is still in India, having vassalised Ambhiraj formerly Ambhikumar in the prequel Porus , the King of Takshashila has captured the Paurava Kingdom after assassinating Porus. Chanakya , a Takshashilan Brahmin scholar and the former prime minister of the Paurava Kingdom arrives in Magadha , ruled by the unjust and cruel Nanda emperor Dhana Nanda. He urges him to drive the Macedonians out of India and unite the Mahajanapadas Indian kingdoms. However, Dhana Nanda openly humiliates Chanakya in the court, mocking his dream of a united India and informs him that it was he who financially helped Seleucus during the assassination of Puru, so that Seleucus will not attack Magadha. This prompts Chanakya to take a vow of eradicating the Nanda dynasty and putting a capable ruler on the throne of Magadha. Chanakya finds Chandragupta nicknamed Chandra , a slave who in reality is the crown prince of Piplivan, a kingdom which was destroyed by Dhana Nanda, and sees in him the talent to become a ruler.

Prior to his consolidation of power, Alexander the Great had invaded the North-West Indian subcontinent before abandoning his campaign in BCE due to a mutiny caused by the prospect of facing another large empire, presumably the Nanda Empire. Chandragupta defeated and conquered both the Nanda Empire centered in Pataliputra , Magadha and the Greek satraps that were appointed or formed from Alexander's Empire in South Asia. Afterwards, Chandragupta expanded and secured his western border, where he was confronted by Seleucus I Nicator in the Seleucid—Mauryan war. After two years of war, Chandragupta was considered to have gained the upper hand in the conflict and annexed satrapies up to the Hindu Kush. Instead of prolonging the war, both parties settled on a marriage treaty. Chandragupta's empire extended throughout most of South Asia , spanning from modern day Bengal to Afghanistan across North India as well as making inroads into Central and South India. In contrast to the Jain legends which developed years later, [11] contemporary Greek evidence states that Chandragupta did not give up performing the rites of sacrificing animals associated with Vedic Brahminism ; he delighted in hunting and otherwise leading a life remote from the Jain practice of Ahimsa or nonviolence towards living beings. Many religions thrived within his realms and his descendants' empire. A memorial for Chandragupta Maurya exists on the Chandragiri hill along with a seventh-century hagiographic inscription.
