Preferring to grow up on the mean and violent streets of Gotham City instead of her broken home, Selina Kyle used her stealth, cunning, martial art skills, and sex appeal to steal numerous treasures and objects of value as the cat burglar appropriately named Catwoman. While on the opposite side of the law, Batman still sees the good in Selina due to her principled code of ethics with the pair becoming close allies at times. After being arrested and brought into Arkham City by Hugo Strange during a skirmish with Two-Face , Catwoman seeks to settle her score with Two-Face and take advantage of the chaos and confusion within the prison compound to satisfy her own greed by breaking into the Confiscated Goods Vault and helping herself to all the loot stored inside. Three months after the events at Blackgate , Catwoman conducted a cat burglary at a government building to steal data. It was during this time that she first encountered Batman , who attempted to stop her. Batman pursued her throughout Gotham until cornering her at the top of a construction site, while also fending off members of the DEO who were after both of them Catwoman for her theft and Batman due to the mistaken belief that he was an accomplice to her. She managed to transfer the data to an unknown contact implied to be Amanda Waller , and fought Batman, only to end up defeated.

Rocksteady's second Batman-centered title Batman: Arkham City was highly praised upon its release for expanding upon the world of its predecessor, Arkham Asylum. Where Arkham Asylum was more linear, confined to its titular location, Arkham City allowed players to take control of Batman and Catwoman as they explored an open world, with a walled off section of Gotham City now housing some of Batman's most dangerous rogues. Arkham City 's campaign told a new story written by Batman: The Animated Series ' Paul Dini which took some bold and daring turns, ending with a twist that shocked many Batman fans. Arkham City 's main campaign focused on Batman working on a cure for Arkham Asylum 's Titan formula before it kills him and his nemesis, The Joker, while also uncovering the secrets behind a sinister scheme, Protocol 10, which had been orchestrated by Arkham City's warden, Hugo Strange. Players could also assume the role of Catwoman for four different levels that saw her attempting to raid Hugo Strange's vault and escape Arkham City. Catwoman's missions ran in parallel to the main plot and occasionally interwove with Batman's narrative. Players even had the option to save the Dark Knight - and ultimately save Arkham City in the process - or leave for good with Catwoman's newly-acquired riches, resulting in a bleak, non-canonical ending. Playing as Catwoman was a highlight of Batman: Arkham City , which is why it's a shame players didn't get more of it in future titles. Catwoman's return in Batman: Arkham Knight felt somewhat underwhelming in comparison to her story in Arkham City , with her ultimately assuming the role of a damsel in distress as she spends the majority of the game's campaign being held captive by the Riddler. Players could assume control of Catwoman in challenges, and could swap between Batman and Catwoman in Arkham Knight 's Riddler missions to solve puzzles, but unfortunately, the Arkham City follow up didn't see her exploring the game's open world, and limited her interactions with the Arkhamverse's wider cast. A spinoff solo title would have been a great way to take the gameplay and relationships built in Catwoman's Batman: Arkham City missions to another level. Given Catwoman's skills as a burglar, it could have expanded upon the Batman: Arkham series' stealth mechanics with stylish heists that could have seen Catwoman globetrotting and exploring other DC locations before a failed robbery ultimately brings her back to Gotham City, following a narrative akin to Ed Brubaker and Darwyn Cooke's Catwoman: One-Shot comic Selina's Big Score. Upon Selina's return to Gotham City, it would be fun to see her interact with the Arkhamverse's version of the Gotham City Sirens who appear in Injustice 2. Batman: Arkham City gave players a glimpse at Catwoman's dynamic with Poison Ivy, with Ivy clearly trusting her enough to look after her plants at one point prior to the game's story. Unfortunately, Selina ultimately forgot to do this, which led to some tension between the two.
