Text description provided by the architects. Catapulted from an inclination to retreat from urban realities, The Cabin House swiftly transforms the pre-pandemic notion of our dwellings. Embracing a quiet reflection of modern lifestyle and vernacular nuances, the design for the sqm sqft plot has been developed from a simple brief of experiencing nature at close quarters. Nestled in the lush greenery of South Bangalore, resides the one-bedroom weekend home for a family of three. One is immediately greeted by the large foliage of the jackfruit and mango trees, where the rectangular dwelling sits along the East-West axis.

In spite of their apparent simplicity, small cabins have always been a welcome design challenge in which scale, materiality and habitability must be resolved in order to take maximum advantage of minimal spaces. Perhaps the most famous exercise in cabin design, the Le Corbusier-designed 16m2 cabanon was a container of ideas in which the Swiss architect explored the "modulor"-- an understanding of the fundamentality of human scale. In the ensuing half-century, many prominent architects have ventured into cabin design both experimentally and at a primitive level, especially as a small refuge in harmony within a natural context. We have selected 40 small cabin designs from around the world that explore different types of solutions according to context and programmatic needs. Text description provided by the architects. Little Black Cabin is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom, bespoke small space that is luxurious and peaceful. The year-old cottage was salvaged, restored, and transformed from a dilapidated shack into a luxurious and highly crafted architectural cabin. At 28 sqm, the cabin is one of the most unique, bespoke projects in the Blue Mountains. An insulated skin of Shou Sugi Ban wraps the existing cottage to provide protection against the elements and bushfire attacks. The bricks have been recycled and repurposed on the site to rebuild the foundations for the cabin and combined with recycled concrete blocks to terrace the step site and integrate gardens. Text description provided by the architects. The Lake Tahoe Cabins is comprised of three discrete structures that traverse the rugged and complex Crystal Bay shoreline. The individual structures are linked by a glazed bridge whose footprint kinks precisely around a mass of pre-historic Sierra granite.
