The legend behind Celtic tattoos is almost as complex as the designs are. From ink that fiercely overawes foes on the battlefield to the purpose of life with no beginning nor end. In search of a tattoo that gently nudges you to pause, take a deep breath, and find your calm?
Here is a brief summary of the Ogham alphabet. Sincerely, Michael. Ogham is the earliest written form of Primitive Irish, the oldest of the Gaelic languages. It would probably be understood literally, though, as "draw breath" its literal meaning in both languages or it might be thought of as a somewhat formal or old-fashioned way to say "breathe". With Irish and Scottish Gaelic, many words are the same or similar with some pretty regular spelling differences , but quite a number are not, and even the ones which are similar can have a different pronunciation or meaning due to shifts which took place over time. I want to get a tattoo in the phrase "the air i breathe" because its what I always say about my children, They are the air I breath. For a slogan or a tattoo, it's safe to just use the informal form, though. This is a simple enough translation that it's highly unlikely anyone else is going to disagree, unless they want to suggest something which doesn't literally mean "breathe", but which conveys the idea of stopping for a moment to take things in calmly. Manx uses a wholly different way of representing its sounds created by non-Manx "experts" only a couple of centuries ago , so Manx words usually look very different.
