But at least outwardly the system hasn't undergone any significant changes. The rear panel made of acoustically viscous plastic is molded in such way that wedge-shaped structure is formed inside, which increases the efficiency of energy absorption of spurious standing waves. Paper cone of the woofer is also profiled in a special way. Slit-type output of bowers and wilkins dm 305 resonator on the faceplate and the classic cylindrical one on the rear panel are connected with total volume of the loudspeaker.
Rachel Cramond Thursday, October 25, They call this new form of construction the Prism system and it comprises a plastic moulded back panel having many of pyramid-shaped spikes projecting into the cabinet expressly to break up, and hence reduce the undesirable coloration from internal standing waves. However, it should still be seen as a non-luxury loudspeaker in comparison with most systems of similar dimensions. It does not simply have a strong family resemblance to the earlier model, it looks uncannily as if the designers have taken a DM and stuck it on top of a box with a moulded fascia whose angled edges carry the DM's profile down to floor level. Of course there is more to the new model than this. Although the 26mm tweeter is the same wide ranging soft-dome unit as in the DM, the woofer is entirely new.

The new DM is a relatively small and affordable two-way tower speaker whose performance belies its size, weight, and cost. The center of the woofer cone has a rigid conical dome, and both drivers are normally concealed by a removable plastic-framed grille. In addition to a conventional circular bass duct whose vent is on the rear of the cabinet, there is also a narrow ducted vent across the front of the cabinet below the woofer. The rear of the cabinet presents an unusual appearance. It resembles an egg-crate, with more than fifty square openings. At the center are the input connectors. The input connectors are two sets of recessed binding posts, normally paralleled by removable metal jumpers. They allow the system to be biwired or biamplified, and apparently they are designed for use only with stripped wire ends, which must be passed through holes in the posts and then screwed down; dual banana plugs cannot be used, and even single plugs are extremely awkward to install because of the limited visibility and finger access to the connections. Because the DM is a floor-standing system, it is not magnetically shielded. Our measurement of the external magnetic-field strength at 4 inches from the front panel of the speaker showed a safe flux level of less than 2 gauss, indicating that the DMs could be placed fairly close to a TV if necessary.
An acoustic resistance partition leads through to the larger lower enclosure which has its own conventional cylindrical port set into the rear panel. The price is about right but its baby brother, the DM now looks like even better value for money at less than half the price. Thus the total port area is quite large and 'chuffing' noises are subdued. The price is about right but its baby brother, the DM now looks like even better value for money at less than half the price. The rear of the cabinet presents an unusual appearance. Fortunately, the speaker speaks for itself with an eloquence rarely associated with products in its price and size range. Because the DM is a floor-standing system, it is not magnetically shielded. Crossover frequency is 3kHz and the two sections of the network are wired to separate pairs of deeply recessed terminals, as is usual these days to allow enthusiasts to opt for bi-wiring or bi-amplification. Although the 26mm tweeter is the same wide ranging soft-dome unit as in the DM, the woofer is entirely new. Tweeter height is about ideal and so the main detail to be determined was whether to point the loudspeakers straight ahead or at an angle towards the listening position. The response has a tendency to be saucer-shaped with some recession in the midrange and a raised plateau at high frequencies. Read all.

The area of heads' mounting is reinforced by bars. The cabinets are finished in black ash vinyl with a cloth grille stretched over a contoured plastics frame. A high quality of long-suffering violin sound's transmission is a very serious argument in favor of the tweeter, which supports the image in cleanness up to very high volume levels. The former arrangement, which I suppose looks more disciplined, works well with over-bright loudspeakers as the listener is then marginally off-axis and extreme high frequencies are to some extent attenuated. The chassis is a high-rigidity casting. As this is a moderately tall loudspeaker, I was surprised at its relatively low weight. We measured a maximum of 26 ohms at 65 Hz and a minimum of just over 4 ohms at 1. Read all. However, it should still be seen as a non-luxury loudspeaker in comparison with most systems of similar dimensions.
I apologise, but this variant does not approach me. Who else, what can prompt?
Certainly, certainly.
Quite right! It seems to me it is very good idea. Completely with you I will agree.
