Geoffroy St-Hilaire. Benjamin Kitchens. VC Access Entertainment. Finland USA.
Watched Feb 23 , However, much like the rest of the film, it goes on for too long, and I began wondering when things would actually get going. Nathan Lane and Amy Ryan show up next, thankfully giving the film a bit of charm, but by the end of this sequence I already found myself looking at the clock. Once they leave, things just seem to keep on dragging. I never feel like Beau is learning much about himself during any of this beyond what was laid out in the first 15 minutes, even as we watch entire metaphorical plays and dreams spelling out why he is the way he is. It looks great for the most part, the production design in particular is top notch, but this whole thing feels like a mere exercise in the most basic of Freudian tropes.

Watched Jul 25 , I know a lot of people who say they feel guilty about this or that. Most of the time, their feelings of guilt have no warrant. There's no law that says they are wrong, not from God or the government. Yet they feel "guilty" just because. If you need examples, cue up just about any episode of Seinfeld at any point in the episode. Sometimes, I'm sure, they are feeling a false sense of guilt. In certain types, this happens a lot. False guilt is what I take the preposterous, hilarious "Beau is Afraid" to be about, a movie that could have no sound description, an experience like few others. Granted, some of this movie feels random or makes no sense.
Beau spends what feels like an eternity in a drugged-up haze getting pushed around by his new "adoptive" family. However as a three hour epic, Beau Is Afraid just becomes indulgent and uninteresting.

Aster starts to lose focus here, and i was suddenly reminded that the film is an adaptation of a short he made in which never has Beau leave his apartment. Aster here contrasts Beau's relationship with the couple's bullying teenage daughter with his first crush on a domineering girl he met on a cruise ship and, obviously, his submissive relationship with his mother. Beau may spend a lot of the film lost in the woods, but the audience never is. So, there's the sense of 'what have I done to alienate this person who I otherwise agree with? Watched by minimoro 22 Mar Hereditary was an excellent film, bar the final scene which I feel kind of ruins it. Midsommar was a great film with some dips and less of a lasting impact on me. I don't really know what this one is. I think there was an idea in there somewhere, but it was not well-executed. The first 45 mins of the film is like an R Rated Free Guy meets the aftermath of Joker and that's what hooks you in for a mammoth 3 hour journey to understand what the heck is actually going on.

After all, I am not ready to say there really could be a penis monster in somebody's attic.
