Her origins and existence are mere speculations based mostly on Kinzo Ushiromiya 's fantastical accounts of their encounter and the tales of servants on the island. Via letters addressed to the family, she proclaims herself the Alchemic Advisor of the Ushiromiya house and announces her right and intent as per her contract with Kinzo, to collect the gold she had loaned along with everything associated with the Ushiromiya family as interest, lest the epitaph below her portrait is solved by somebody. Soon enough, Beatrice commits a series of bizarre occult murders during the two days of the family conference following the epitaph, in a ceremony to resurrect herself. The incidents she causes in the story seem humanly impossible, leaving those on the island with no choice but to acknowledge Beatrice as a true witch who wielded strange magic. Much of Umineko When They Cry centers around her clashes with Battler Ushiromiya , who fervently denies her existence as a witch; claiming that all of her murders are possible with human tricks.

There are so many characters in the real and meta world that represent her. At the same time thought they also behave as very different people, despite coming from Yasu. The question is should we talk about characters such as Shannon and Kanon in this analysis, or should talk like that be saved for an in general Yasu thread. When Ange busted in she did seem genuinely conflicted before going right back into troll mode. This is further evidenced at the start of episode 4, where she acts cute again, and tried to genuinely cheer Battler up when she thinks that he was in a sour state due to the last game. For the duration of their contract, Beatrice was to remain in the human realm and was effectively Kinzo's prisoner. As a result, Beatrice was bound to the body of Beatrice Castiglioni and was imprisoned on Rokkenjima. In order to escape, Beatrice allowed herself to die during childbirth which in turn allowed her to leave her human vessel. Kinzo managed to recapture her soul and imprison her once again in the body of the baby Beatrice Ushiromiya.

Beatrice is the main antagonist of Episodes She clashes with Battler Ushiromiya , trying to convince him that witches are real and that she used magic to execute a series of bizarre murders on the island of Rokkenjima. She claims to have lived for over a thousand years. She has already strayed from the domain of humans, and it is said that as demons do, she appears when summoned by a human and lends him her power for a compensation of equivalent value. The story is divided into eight main arcs, which are referred to as episodes. The first four episodes of the series are referred to as Umineko no Naku Koro ni Question Arcs to distinguish it from the full series. It is succeeded by Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru , which consists of the last four episodes.

Beatrice assists Battler in finding evidence to use against EVA, and after a fierce debate, Battler is pinned down by EVA's web of red truth and is unable to come up with theories.
