Just 10 minutes into Wednesday's program, billed as "America's Got Talent: The Results," Avery and the Calico Hearts, along with fellow contestants Frank Miles and Taylor Davis, became the first three of this season's 12 finalists to be eliminated. Speaking volumes for 9-year-old Avery Winter, and year-old Brooklyn Elbert and Kassidy King, the members of the losing Lubbock trio, was that all three were among the first to rush over and congratulate members of dance team Fatally Unique, which made the show's semifinals. Only four of the 12 acts who performed for a national television audience Tuesday night would reach the semifinal stage. The three Lubbock girls, who became "very best friends" during their five months spent competing, held hands while awaiting the verdict. And really, aside from Team iLuminate moving on, there were few if any sure things because voting by judges Howie Mandel, Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan did not factor into who moved on. Rather, it was the television viewing audience that was allowed to vote for hours via text, toll free telephone calls and online after Tuesday's performances. That said, while Mandel repeatedly said Avery and the Calico Hearts deserved their own television show despite comparing them to the Chipmunks , and while Osbourne remained a consistent supporter, Morgan was convinced these girls were competing five years before their time. And each time, audiences in Houston, Las Vegas and Hollywood let him know they did not share his opinion. The cheers from those audiences no doubt will be remembered for years by Avery and the Calico Hearts.
