You Have Been Warned! When I was a boy, my father, Avatar Aang, told me the story of how he and his friends heroically ended the Hundred Year War. Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko transformed the Fire Nation colonies into the United Republic of Nations, a society where benders and nonbenders from all over the world could live and thrive together in peace and harmony. They named the capital of this great land, "Republic City. But sadly, his time in this world came to an end, and like the cycle of the seasons, the cycle of the Avatar began anew It ran from April 14, to December 19, Set seventy years after the events of its predecessor, the series follows the adventures of a boisterous teenage girl named Korra, a member of the Southern Water Tribe and Aang's successor as Avatar. Thematically, there are some differences between it and the parent show: while Avatar: The Last Airbender is arguably High Fantasy with East Asian elements mixed in, The Legend of Korra is Urban Fantasy in an East Asian inspired setting, complete with mass media and politics. In a deviation from its predecessor, each book focuses on a new antagonist for the arc rather than one single Big Bad , as a way to place more emphasis on the Avatar's role as the world's protector. While it was originally announced as a twelve episode Mini Series , Nickelodeon picked up an additional fourteen episodes during production. After the success of the first twelve episodes, another 26 episode season was announced. These were later broken up into three seasons, fourteen episodes for the second and thirteen each for the third and fourth. Book 1: "Air", begins with Korra having easily mastered all the elements but air. When told that her training will have to wait due to political concerns, Korra travels to Republic City - a metropolis based off of The Roaring '20s , where crime is rampant and an anti-bending movement , led by a faction called "Equalists", is growing in strength.
Ghazan, the earthbender, was held in a floating wooden island prison. He tried again with the Krew and screwed them over, but after tangling with the Dai Li he truly turned over a new leaf.

Korra is the current Living Avatar, successor to and reincarnation of Aang. Over the course of the series, her fetters and flaws are broken down, enabling her to grow and become one of the most world-changing Avatars in history. For tropes applying to the Avatar entity in general, go here. Korra gains airbending, but only after she loses the ability to bend the other three elements.
However, a couple of months after the show's addition to Netflix, the rating was bumped back down to a TV-Y7 rating for fantasy violence. Scenery Porn : Just take a good look at Republic City. There's so much scenery porn that there needs to be a parental advisory warning. Season 3 introduces the city of Zaofu in the Earth Kingdom that was founded by Metalbenders. It consists entirely of clusters of palace-like buildings in the shape of flowers, all made out of stainless steel, and during nighttime the benders close their "petals" around them. Schizo Tech : Despite the generally Early-Twentieth Century level of technology present in the show, the Equalists seem to have mastered high-energy, low-mass power generators or batteries, giving their mooks electrified Kali-sticks and Power Palms. This is especially surprising taking into account that the city uses lightningbenders for power generation. As of season 4, the Avatar world holds the rare combination of a world with directed energy weapons but no conventional firearms. Even worse, it has giant mecha suits , one of which is the size of a skyscraper , despite not having developed any kind of advanced circuitry, let alone computers, to control such monstrous machines.

Out of the two-dozen or so members, at least half are teenagers, several more are even younger, and Tenzin's wife and year-old son are among them. Heartwarming Orphan : Zigzagged. Yin pulls the typical grandmotherly "why aren't you dating her" trick on Mako Iroh himself, however, not only survives, but proceeds to single handedly wipe out a fleet of Equalist fighters on their way to bomb the backup fleet. Unfortunately, with Republic City becoming Out of Focus after season 1, and his character revolving around the Romantic Plot Tumor and the aftermath, there was never an opportunity to capitalize on it. At least it's a chance at an honest living. Strong Family Resemblance : We have a pretty good idea what Korra may look like in her middle age here The Cutie : A baby Sky Bison? By the time the show starts, however, it has become much more. Rescued from the Scrappy Heap : For those who hated on Asami for creating conflict in the Makorra triangle, Asami's character growth in "The Aftermath" and in the finale skyrocketed her popularity. Similarly, Amon doing the same to Korra in the Book One finale.

Jinora and Skoochy are this as well as a Toy Ship. They do get The Big Damn Kiss , but it comes a bit later, once much of the underlying drama has been resolved. With this weapon, Kuvira can very much carry the big stick over other nations without having to conquer them. Although, their relationship in no way is portrayed as unhealthy as Korra is more than happy to be there for Asami - especially after all of the care, kindness, and warmth Asami showed her while she was recovering from her poisoning, PTSD, and depression. In Ruins of The Empire he actually starts taking his role and decision making very seriously, showing to Kuvira that he does take his people's interests at heart, and knows what he's doing. The second is in the Book 3 season finale, where she loses the ponytail along with her shoes, skirt, and armband when the Red Lotus chain her up in preparation to poison her. They adore her right back. Only Sane Man : Not stated, but he is apparently the most down to earth of the four; given how P'Li and Ming-Hua are temperamental and Ax-Crazy , respectively, while Zaheer has shown himself to possess a nasty ruthless streak. She is putting more effort to negotiating ways out of violence, and isn't so quick to resort to excessive force during fights. Epic Fail : In Turf Wars , his popularity has taken a nosedive between being seen as a coward for surrendering Republic City to Kuvira and avoiding dealing with the refugee crisis to focus on re-election , leaving his approval rating at The subsequent raising of the story's stakes, combined with some Character Development for Korra, also silenced many of the complaints.
