When Morris talks about the genesis of the band, she tends to split the timeline into three parts. The second, abigail morris, getting signed to Island records and recording their first album with legendary producer James Ford.

They have no permanent drummer, and are currently joined during live performances by Rebekah Rayner. The band signed with Island Records before releasing their debut single " Nothing Matters " in April , which became a top 20 UK hit. Morris, Davies and Mayland met in in London before starting university and decided to form a band after frequently attending gigs together at The Windmill , feeling inspired by being part of an important scene after watching bands such as Black Midi and HMLTD. The band initially struggled to find time to rehearse together because of the COVID lockdown in the UK , and they did not perform live until their first gig at The George in London in November After signing with Island Records as 'the Last Dinner Party' to avoid confusion with the jazz supergroup Dinner Party , [4] they released their debut single "Nothing Matters", which was produced by James Ford , on 19 April

British indie rock band The Last Dinner Party have caused a storm online after 'tone deaf' comments made by the band's lead singer resurfaced. The five-piece band from London recently went straight to number one with their debut album Prelude to Ecstasy , knocking James Arthur off the top spot. But before the girls put champagne on ice, they face growing backlash online regarding a previous comment about the cost-of-living crisis. Last month, lead singer Abigail Morris told the Times : 'People don't want to hear about the cost of living crisis anymore. The band, whose members also include Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies and Aurora Nishevci, secured 32, chart sales with their first album in the first week. Prelude to Ecstasy was also the best seller in UK independent record shops that week, landing at Number one on the Official Record Store Chart, and was the biggest vinyl album of the week too.

For the longest time, The Last Dinner Party comprised of vocalist Abigail Morris, bassist Georgia Davies, keyboardist Aurora Nishevci and guitarists Lizzie Mayland and Emily Roberts existed only through rare and elusive fan recordings, winning over audiences on the excitement around their live shows alone.
