Teenager charged with murder fronts court over death of elderly man in Greenwood in Perth's north. A year-old man accused of murder and attempted murder over an alleged attack on an elderly couple at their home in Perth's northern suburbs has appeared in court for the first time. Wearing a police-issued white jumpsuit, Pasifique Zawadi Niyonyishi was not represented by a lawyer when he appeared in Joondalup Magistrates Court on Tuesday. He is charged with murdering Colin Norton, 81, and attempting to kill Margaret Norton, 75, at their Greenwood home on Monday morning. Magistrate Evan Shackleton told the teenager he would need to make an application to the Supreme Court if he intended to request bail, as only a Supreme Court justice is authorised to approve bail for those accused of murder. Mr Shackleton also advised Mr Niyonyishi to seek legal advice. He was remanded in custody and will remain at Hakea Prison until his next court appearance early next month. It comes after police responded to a neighbour's triple-0 call that a man had been injured on Mattison Way just after 8am on Monday. On arrival, they discovered Mr Norton with critical head and other injuries and Mrs Norton with serious abdominal injuries. Mr Norton died at the scene and his wife was taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.
