For every villain that rests in the entire expansive rogue's gallery of Batman, one villain stands tall with the unique distinction that few - if any - other villains hold over him: he was the only man to literally, physically, and mentally break the Bat. That man is none other than Bane. Bane's first appearance came in Vengeance of Bane 1 , but he is best remembered for the chaos he causes in the Knightfall story arc, specifically running Batman into a brief retirement.
