Mei Ling is a recurring character in the Metal Gear series. A child prodigy who had a passion for fighter jets, she enrolled in MIT and majored in applied physics, aerial photography and air intelligence in the ROTC program. After losing her position as a researcher due to the events of Sons of Liberty , something Snake correctly predicted would happen, Mei Ling transfered to the Navy. By the events of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots , she is the captain of the USS Missouri , a decommissioned navy battleship that had been turned into a museum and then re-instated as a training vessel.
