The rock and metal community have been absolutely gutted since the news of Joey Jordison 's death came out on July The musician, who was 46 years old, died peacefully in his sleep, according to a statement from his loved ones. But the rocker's resume went beyond being a masked member of the Nine. He was also a founding member of another Des Moines-based horror band called Murderdolls , but it doesn't stop there. He was the original drummer and co-founder of the heavy metal band Slipknot , in which he was designated 1 , and the guitarist for the horror punk supergroup Murderdolls. Jordison grew up in Des Moines, Iowa , with his parents and two sisters, and was given his first drum kit at the age of 8. He performed with many bands early in his career; then in , he joined a band called the Pale Ones, which would later change their name and become Slipknot. Jordison played in Slipknot since its inception, helping form the band until his departure in December of Of Slipknot's nine-member lineup, which lasted from —, Joey was the third to join the band. He was also the drummer and founder of Scar the Martyr , which formed in and disbanded in With Slipknot, Jordison performed on the band's first four studio albums, and produced the live album 9. Jordison was also known for his session work, which included performances on various recordings for many artists.
